Government Preparation of Technology Education (ICT) in Nepal

Along with the increasing use of information and technology in teaching and learning in the world, the Government of Nepal is also making necessary legal arrangements. In Nepal, periodic five-year and three-year plans have been made to help improve the quality of education by using information and technology in education.

Analysis of developing ICT Education

  • Provision has been made in the National Curriculum Draft 2063 BS to encourage teaching and learning based on digital technology in Nepal. Similarly, the concept of One Laptop Per Child was prepared in 2065 BS, according to which more than 7,000 laptops have been provided in more than 200 schools in the country.
  • E-libraries have been established in more than 500 schools. Improving the quality of school education through the use of information and communication technology is in line with the policy put forward by the “School Sector Reform Program 2009-2015 AD” with the objective of overall development in school education.
  • The guideline 2069 on the use of information and communication technology in school education is being prepared and implemented to reduce the distance and expand the scope of students' learning by expanding their access to the world knowledge base.
  • According to the directive, a committee has been formed under the chairmanship of the member in charge of the education of the National Planning Commission to use information and communication technology in education. Such education.

  • The Government of Nepal aimed to ensure access to information technology in all school resource centers of the country by preparing the ICT in Education Master Plan 2013-2017 to use technology more systematically in school education.

  • In the Fiscal Year 2077/78, a provision has been made to provide Rs.6,50,000 per school for the use of ICT in teaching and learning and e-library establishment.

  • Keeping this situation in mind the government has issued Student Learning Facilitation Guideline 2077 through an alternative system has issued. The guideline also states that teaching and learning activities can be continued at the local level within their geographical area of jurisdiction as long as possible using an alternative method or offline technology.
  • At present, the Ministries of Social Development of the state government are also working in a planned manner to provide funds for the use of technology in education, including computers and equipment, and to conduct teacher training programs.
  • Most of the local levels are also conducting this program in additional schools as per the plan of the federal and state governments. Various national and international non-governmental organizations are also providing additional assistance in government programs to prepare technological manpower by using technology in education.
  • Some organizations have assisted in formulating policies in this regard while others have provided financial support to sustain government programs providing physical and technical assistance. Significant work is being done by professional bodies, including government agencies, to enhance the capacity of teachers.

Thus, various plans, policies, rules, directives, and regulations have been prepared by the government for the use of information and technology in teaching and learning. Based on this, it is possible to move forward in a more planned manner by preparing the necessary physical infrastructure and manpower.
